FAQ

Welcome to the FAQ section! Here you will find answers to the most frequently asked questions about psychotherapy. Please note that the information in this section is of a general nature and cannot replace individual counselling. If you have specific questions, please contact me.

What can I expect at the initial consultation?

The initial consultation is an important first step in psychotherapy and primarily serves to get to know each other. It offers you the opportunity to get an impression of me and my way of working and to find out whether you feel comfortable in my practice. At the same time, you will receive initial information about the process and the general conditions of the therapy. During this consultation, we will discuss your concerns, expectations and wishes. The aim is to clarify together whether and how I can support you with your issues. We can also talk about your ideas and possible therapy goals. If you are still unsure about where your path should lead, we will work out initial ideas together. It is quite normal for therapy goals to develop or change in the course of the process. During the initial consultation, we will also clarify important organisational issues such as the frequency of sessions, the psychotherapeutic setting (individual, couple or family therapy), the fee and the arrangements for cancellations. This discussion forms the basis for deciding whether you would like to continue therapy with me. The initial consultation is charged like a regular session at the respective fee. Afterwards, you will have the opportunity to decide at your leisure whether you would like to continue working with me. I look forward to getting to know you and taking the first steps on your journey with you.

How long does a session last and how often should I come for therapy?

As a rule, an individual session lasts 50 minutes, or 90 minutes if desired or necessary. Couple or family sessions last 90 minutes. The frequency of therapy sessions depends on your individual needs, your problem and your level of suffering. Sessions usually take place once a week, every two weeks or once a month. Regularity is particularly important here, as this significantly promotes the success of the therapy. The time between sessions can always be discussed and adapted to your needs.

Cancellation policy?

Agreed appointments are binding. Appointments must be cancelled 48 hours before they take place by telephone or text message. Appointments that are not cancelled or cancelled too late will be charged in full.

Billing?

The therapy unit must be paid in cash at the end of the session. Alternatively, from the fourth session onwards, it is possible to transfer the outstanding amount to the specified account within 7 days of receiving the fee note. Psychotherapy sessions of psychotherapists in training under supervision cannot be submitted to the health insurance company. However, Austrian employers will accept corresponding working time confirmations.

Can I settle part of the therapy costs with the health insurance company?

A cost subsidy is not possible from health insurance companies for psychotherapists in training under supervision. The hourly fee is discounted for you accordingly.

When does psychotherapy help?

Psychotherapy helps when you are confronted with challenges, stresses or conflicts in your life that you find difficult to deal with on your own. It can also have a supportive effect if you suffer from psychological symptoms such as anxiety, depression or traumatic experiences. Psychotherapy is a scientifically based method that aims to alleviate psychological suffering, overcome personal crises and improve your quality of life. It offers a protected space in which you can work on your individual issues together with a therapist. The aim is not only to reduce symptoms, but also to gain a deeper understanding of your feelings, thoughts and behaviour as well as the relationship patterns that shape your life. Psychotherapy can be helpful in different phases of life, whether for acute crises or long-term development processes. It helps you to develop new perspectives and strengthens your ability to overcome challenges independently.

What is systemic therapy?

Systemic therapy, also known as systemic family therapy, is a recognised form of psychotherapy that sees people as part of a complex social system. These systems can include families, partnerships, circles of friends or work environments. Problems are not seen as isolated deficits of a single person, but as the result of relationship dynamics and communication patterns within the entire system. The main aim of systemic therapy is to shed light on interpersonal interactions and improve the quality of relationships in order to increase individual well-being. The focus is not only on the causes of the problems, but also on their function within the system. The therapist looks at these problems in a circular way, which means that the therapist analyses the interactions between the system elements in order to bring the system into balance. In a protected and trusting environment, clients work together with the therapist to utilise their existing resources and skills in order to develop suitable solution strategies. Relevant attachment figures can be included in the therapeutic process in order to discover new ways of dealing with challenges together and to find autonomous solutions to existing concerns. Due to its flexibility, systemic therapy can be used in a variety of settings - whether in individual, couple, family or group therapy - and thus enables customised support to promote individual and collective well-being.

What does ‘psychotherapist in training under supervision’ mean?

It refers to the final stage of training to become a psychotherapist.
Psychotherapists in training under supervision are therapists who are already at the end of their many years of training. At this point, they have completed at least four years of training and are qualified to work independently with clients. In close dialogue with experienced teaching therapists, they reflect anonymously on therapeutic processes on an ongoing basis.

What exactly does confidentiality mean?

As a psychotherapist in training under supervision, I am subject to confidentiality in accordance with § 15 of the Psychotherapy Act, Federal Law Gazette No. 361/1990. This confidentiality also applies to third parties and beyond the end of the psychotherapy. This also applies to authorities, doctors, relatives, as well as for children and adolescents towards their parents. The duty of confidentiality is essential to enable a trusting relationship in our work together. What is said will not leave the practice premises.

How long does psychotherapy take?

The duration of psychotherapeutic treatment is very individual and depends on your therapy goal and the severity of your problem. Psychotherapy is a process and takes time. Small successes and positive changes can occur after just a few sessions. However, setbacks, doubts or renewed crises can also be part of the therapy process. Give yourself the time you need to bring about lasting changes. The end of therapy should always be agreed with me and planned together. Parallel individual therapies or therapy groups with other psychotherapists should also be carefully coordinated and aligned with your therapy goals. I therefore ask you to inform me if you would like to take advantage of additional therapeutic offers.
